Cancelling your gmat score

Right after you have finished the GMAT, you unofficial score will appear on your computer screen. For some, this will be a moment of joy, as they have obtained a sufficient score. For others, this might be a less joyful moment, since they have not reached their desired score. The latter have to make a choice. Do they want to keep, or cancel their score? Keeping your score means that you and universities can see it for the next five years. If you decide to cancel your score, it will not be visible for anyone ever. In this blog, we discuss the pros and cons of cancelling your GMAT score.

WHY YOU SHOULD NOT CANCEL YOUR GMAT SCORE

The highest score that you obtain on the GMAT counts, so it does not really make sense to cancel your score. In addition to that, it shows that you are determined to reach your score. For example, if you obtained a score of 570 on the first try. Two months later you take the GMAT again, and your score is 630. Some admission committees might notice that you put in extra work during those months. Being prepared to study hard can be seen as a valuable asset.

WHY YOU SHOULD CANCEL YOUR GMAT SCORE

As is said, there are valid reasons to never cancel your GMAT score. But, even though not as convincing, there is an argument to do cancel your GMAT score. It can happen that you reach a GMAT score which is nowhere near the minimum requirement of the university you are applying for. If this is the case when you are applying for an MBA programme at a prestigious university, it might be rational to consider cancelling your score. Because, for these MBA programs, the GMAT score is not the only requirement. Universities look at your overall picture and the remainder of the admission requirements are strict. In addition to that, you can ensure yourself that the competition is fierce. Therefore, you want to present yourself in the best way possible. This is why some people consider to cancel their GMAT score.
