GMAT non-business background

Not having a business background in your education surely doesn’t mean it makes no sense to take the GMAT exam at all. In fact, there are numerous reasons why someone who doesn’t have an undergraduate in business, should take the GMAT. In this blog we’ll highlight a couple of reasons for taking the GMAT with a non-business background.

MBA FOR PEOPLE WITH A NON-BUSINESS BACKGROUND

Starting a Master of Business Administration program as someone who doesn’t have a business background. This sounds a bit contradicting, doesn’t it? Still this is possible. Because an MBA program is a more practical form of education than theoretical, a business undergraduate is not obligatory. However, to be admitted to an MBA program you already need to have a bachelor- or master’s degree. In most cases to be admitted you also need a couple of years of work experience. So in short, an MBA for people with a non-business background surely is possible. To be admitted to an MBA, usually you need to get a certain GMAT score to be admitted, depending on which program you apply to. Finally, in many cases you will also need to complete some basic courses (for example in finance, statistics or accounting) in advance to the MBA, so you won’t have to fall behind your peers.

SHOWCASE YOUR HIGHER REASONING ABILITIES

As mentioned in previous blogs, you don’t have to be a real genius to pass the GMAT. This also goes for non-business undergraduates. The GMAT exam is not a ridiculously difficult math-, or high-level English exam. It’s a test where you showcase your higher reasoning abilities. So the GMAT is not just about your math capabilities, or your level of English knowledge, but about the way you think and reason.

Preparing the GMAT exam takes a lot of hard work and dedication; it’s certainly not for everyone. Learning how to approach the different question types is key.
